With the growing popularity of Dub music around the world, the venues are starting to be a shortage. Most venues are not willing to let sound systems bring their own equipment and when they do… well, let’s say they always have some limitations, especially when it comes to the sound. Let’s be honest it’s a lot of bass for closed environments. This is where, as an event organizer, I am committed to finding the perfect place for my events. We have to keep in mind that not always it’s possible to find an outdoor venue where you can have a sound system event within the budget.
When it comes to events, there are two events that inspire me a lot: Reunion of Dub in Sao Paulo, Brazil and United Nations of Dub Weekender Party (UNOD) in London, England. Both festivals have created similar yearly events that bring the best of the best of Dub singers and sound systems from around the world in one place. These two events have inspired to keep my aspirations to do myself an event that will make history; an event that can be repeated yearly. In Reunion of Dub the music got to be played as loud as it’s expected and desired because the venue was outdoor but, in UNOD the venue was a closed venue and this creates the situation of having volume control. Volume control is very limiting since the main attraction of Dub music is that trembling bass that makes you move uncontrollably (at least, I move uncontrollably LOL) and that’s what most people are looking or when they come to the party: to dance.
Another event that’s making a lot of noise in the scene is Dubwise. It started in Jamaica and it has already extended to New York, Washington D.C., Atlanta, Miami, Puerto Rico, and Mexico (Soon coming to a city near you. Believe me!). It promises to take over the world along with one of its permanent DJs and creator Yaadcore. This event is a more of a small venue kind of event and it tries to bring awareness of Dub to the masses. Normally it’s done in closed environments like lounges but that does not stop one to enjoy the bass and dance to the music.
While I get my ideas ready to create my own Dub event, I will continue to take notes of this and many other events that are happening in large and small scale. Hopefully, you (yes, you, my beloved reader) will be able to come to one of my events and dance uncontrollably to the bass with me. I’m so looking forward for that moment. ReplyDeleteI agree with you that it is a challenge to find a venue that will suffice an event such as the one you are trying to promote which consists of all that Bass that people love to dance to. In New York City there are many venues available where you have have such events. Although, there are venues that require permits, there are a few open spaces that an event like this can be held. I recommend Governors Island and Randall's Island. These two venue have already had music festivals such as Governors Ball and Electric Zoo. These music festivals consists of several stages of just "Bass in the face." I have been to Governors Island for many Electronic Dance Music events and if you know of EDM, it consists of Techno, Dubstep and House music which is all about that bass.
However, aside from these open spaces, in my opinion, the best places to throw such an event would be Brooklyn warehouses where everything is enclosed and all you hear is the bass and dance all night long.
